Spin for Kids

Training for Cozumel has been very busy, thus very few posts.

Last week, I spent the week in Williamsburg with 40 7th graders! I still got in some running in the morning, but we sandwiched the week with BIG workouts.  Last Saturday George and I did a 100 mile ride and a 6 mile run. The ride was HARD. I wasn't expecting that. But, I am stronger for it!

This weekend we did the 62 mile ride at Spin 4 Kids followed by a 13-14 mile run.  It was great! The ride was wonderful, the cause was fantastic, and the support is supurb.

If you are in the Atlanta area, and looking for a ride next year, this is the one. The cause is amazing, as Camp Twin Lakes is a really incredible place. There are a variety of courses. There was SO much great food at the rest stops, that I once considered staying there. If you have kids, they can stay and do camp activities and be taken care of while you ride! What more can you ask for???

I was very lucky, and had people to ride with (and push me,which I need!), I ran some alone, but then picked up my good friends for the last two legs of the run. The day flew by, my fitness felt solid, and I was happy the whole day (which for me is a great indicator of my training and my nutrition!). Note to self, bring banana bread to Cozumel ;-) and pumpkin cookies (yes, I ate a cookie on my run...and it was perfect!).

George and I were lucky enough to be invited to be on the Halpern's Team by Laura, who is my training buddy and runs this whole she-bang. It was a perfect day!!!

Rev3 Anderson Olympic Race Report

This weekend, I raced at Rev3 Anderson!!!

It was SUCH a great weekend. I would never have guessed that it was inaugural year. And it was not the easiest race to put on, but Rev3 really made it work! To be honest, I had a blast on this course!

We had dinner with my teammates on Saturday, which was great! Love seeing everyone and catching up or meeting new folks. Great evening!

To the race:

The swim: Nothing special. I swam fine, but not great. I could work on this. I think my swim fitness could peak again if I worked on it. I had a really good June for my swimming, but it has felt stagnant lately.

The bike: Oh man, NOT easy! It was hilly AND windy! Yikes! But, it was a FUN course! I had a great ride, and made up for some of that so-so swimming on my bike. My confidence in my bike has risen, and I am fired up about that. It was not really a course suited to me, so I am happy about my time!

The run: Here was my real surprise. My legs have been tired and sore all week. I have done exactly 1 speed workout in months and months. I went out in about an 8 minute mile. Opps. I am not really ready for that. And then I did another. And another. And before I new it, I was at mile 5 and wrapping it up in my best 10K this year (including my stand alone 10K this year!). You know what. I'll take it.

I could feel the depth of my endurance while I was out there. I knew I was capable of a good race, but I certainly doubted myself A LOT before hand. I had a ton of thoughts that were really negative going into this race. My last Oly was a 3:06 that I was not happy with. I was also 4 weeks out from an Ironman then too, and I could really feel it. I kept on saying to myself and out lout, "I am not good at these shorter things." To be honest, I didn't feel Cedar Point in my legs at all. I just felt ready to go and solid out there. It was a huge confidence builder for me.

Here's my results in the numbers:

Round Four Begins

On Tuesday, I officially started my training for:

It is on November 27th, so I have about 8.5 weeks to prepare, which is about right.

Here's the scary part. If I have a good day, I really want to come in in 11-something. I had a good day in CP, I didn't taper much, and I did absolutely no speed work, and I came in at 12:09. I just need to find 10 little minutes.

I usually do not do 2-a-days during the school year. It is really really tough. I know it is tough for everyone, but I usually only do those in the summer and on holidays. BUT, you can't keep doing the same thing and expect the same result....so I am doing those 2-a-days, and I was even on a track yesterday morning! Crazy!

So, in the same week, I am re-committing to my nutrition AND my training. Getting up really early to train, training after school/meeting/tutoring, and getting ready to do it again. It is a lot. But I can do it. And I am going to get faster. I know I am ready to get faster. I have a LOT of endurance right now. With the right fuel and the right training, I think I can speed this self up. At least I hope I can.

The real and constant challenge is balance balance balance. Sleep/food/training/work/family (friends are pretty limited for a while--sorry!).

I think I just needed to say it out loud. I hope it pays off.
